Poems at LRT/MRT

>> 09 June, 2011

I'm pretty sure you have ridden the Light Rail Transit (LRT) or Metro Rail Transit (MRT) here in the Philippines. Usually, we plugged ourselves to our playlists, unconsciously stare at moving buildings, sink into our papers, or visit dreamland.

With all these gestures to burn time, I always wondered if anyone else have noticed the poems sticked inside the train carts.

Blocking the heap of advertisements from view (and the people), I'm sure you'll see it. There's the adorable Berso sa Metro which are Spanish poems with the equivalent Tagalog translation and some Tulaan sa Tren.

One early Friday morning from 5:40 to 6:05, I have ridden the LRT 1 and was inspired to create a poem. When you read it, I hope you can visualize what I saw and felt that time.

"Destinasyon"

Destinasyon mo'y maabot
Sa munti mong pagidlip
Malaming na araw
Ulit-ulit kumukudlit
Pwesto kong gitna
'Di ko ipagbebenta
Ang umagang ito'y
Isang magandang panaginip

As they were sleeping around me, I observed while writing my poem. Seeing them going to work inspired me so much because life in Manila is tough and they made it this far. I salute all of you :)

Its amazing how many stories you can create/come up with sa isahang byahe ng MRT/LRT. You literally rubbed elbows with people from different walks of life, and can you just imagine what sort of life one lives? Its been an addictive hobby of mine.. ;))

Napadaan..

Galing mo ah nakakabuo ka ng poem sa lrt, samantalang ako nakatingin lang sa malayo o kaya sa mga buildings, at minsan naman lumulutang lang.. :P

btw, i'd found your link on an icon related site.. =)

Hello! I'm a new visitor to your site. :D

I've been to the Philippines a couple of times in my life but I have never ridden a train there. I guess I'm missing out big time! That's going on my bucket list. I think it's pretty clever to do that. It definitely would pass more time than absent mindedly staring into the depths of someone's shoe. Anywho, I like your poem! It really captures life for some. ^^

Take care!

@Lira, Exactly. That's why I was inspired to create the poem. Thanks for dropping by :)

@metalpig, we're not far away from each other. It just makes me curious what others are think inside the LRT/MRT

@Edel, Oh you should try riding one on your spare time :) A shoe also has its part of story to tell. Thank you for liking my poem :)

@Navinuz, I do hope the institution inspires more Filipinos to learn the Spanish language :D
