Mark your Calendars on October 21, 2015

>> 21 October, 2010

Are you a fan of the 'Back to the Future' trilogy - the most awesome American science-fiction comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis? Then mark your calendars on October 21, 2015 for "Future Day" because it is the most anticipated day for us BotF fans!!!

Why? Well based from the second sequel, Marty McFly went to the future using Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown's DeLorean DMC-12 time machine from October 1985 to October 2015 to fix the sudden change of events from the present.

Awesomeness!!!

In just five more years, we'll celebrate that special day with our hover boards, self-lacing trainers, and flux capacitors :D

Let's synchronize our watches and mark that date :p

It's self-explanatory though, hehehe XD

Honey Punch by Riyu Kosaka (BeForU)

Honey Punch by Riyu Kosaka is one of the songs I like from her group, BeForU. It's fun to listen to and quite addictive to play at Dance Dance Revolution.

But ever since I've synced this to my cellphone, I usually play this whenever I'm annoyed at someone or being in a mood where I don't care too much. It kinda stuck that way lols.

Frankly, this is also one of the songs I wanted to memorize XD

The Triangle

>> 18 October, 2010

I was concocting ideas for my shirt design for Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary but it wasn't easy because I wanted something that defines me and my blog. Oftentimes, I'm left blank in-front of the laptop or holding a pencil with a blank sheet of paper.

I did my research and settled for... a triangle :)

For obvious reasons, I have chosen the triangle because it's a unique shape for a shirt design 'cause if you think about it, we seldom or haven't seen anyone wearing this symbol. We always see the common such as the circle, stripes, checkered, wings, skulls, cute characters, and the never-ending statement shirts. I said, "I just gotta go for the triangle".

But would you believe I was careful for choosing the triangle?

It's a symbol mostly associated with magic. I fossicked the net for symbols that contains a triangle in it. I'm avoiding conflicts as much as possible to prevent stereotyping myself, disrespecting beliefs, and false impression, thus, creating confusion to the onlookers.

Anyway, the triangle is a fascinating shape, although, this is not my field of expertise so I'll copy and paste a portion from one of the sources about its meaning :)

~~

The triangle's meaning is associated with some keywords, such as: Harmony, Proportion, Ascension, Gender, Manifestation, Illumination, Integration, Subjectivity, and Culmination. This sort of versatility is what captures themes of magic, wonder and creativity in the triangle meaning.

None of the other basic shapes offer this kind of inherent duplicity. When we turn a square on its side, the symbol meaning remains the same. Same with the circle - rolling it around, it's still a circle.

But the triangle proposes mammoth (polar even) variables in meanings when tipped top from bottom. To wit:

FemaleMale
LunarSolar
YoniLingam
ShaktiShakta
PassiveActive
CaveMountain
DownUp
MotherFather

These are just a few examples of how a simple shift of this symbol can offer huge variations in meaning. I invite you to contemplate these and other similarities, as I believe pondering these solidifies the symbolic experience the triangle symbol has to share.

Any discussion about triangle meaning cannot continue without connecting it with the number three. Indeed, the triangle meaning is inseparable from the number three.

All the mystic teachings incorporate the power of three within their folds. Three represents the union of the numbers prior to it (One and Two). Numerologically speaking, if One represents force, and Two represents an opening, then Three is the birthing of true wisdom.

Consider just a few time-honored triads proposed by esoteric triangles:

Waxing, Waning, Full
Spirit, Mind, Body
Father, Son, Holy Ghost
Mother, Father, Child
Past, Present, Future
Power, Intellect, Love
Creator, Destroyer, Sustainer
Creation, Preservation, Destruction
Thought, Feeling, Emotion
Mother, Maiden, Crone
Love, Truth, Wisdom

The symbolic idea here, is that the vertical side represents one aspect, the horizontal side another aspect and the hypotenuse is offspring of the combining sides. The combination of one and another produces a new form of being altogether (a child, as it were).

Shirt Design for my Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary

>> 17 October, 2010

Yep, I made that triangle-shaped shirt design on a yellow shirt for my Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary. I can't remember how I thought of the idea to make a shirt design, I just did :)

Anyway, I prepared this project for almost two months. I first seek assistance to my professors if they knew anybody who runs a shirt printing business, gave me contact numbers but didn't called or emailed them even if I wanted to because back in my mind, I was worried about the cost of the whole printing.

I did my research about silk screening and find it interesting, I was like, "I'll do this myself, it will be fun." :)

I watched tutorial videos, read product reviews and procedures, searched for materials at the mall, figured substitutions for unavailable materials, and contacted the supplier to clarify my queries.

I was semi-prepared so I made a test shirt to apply what I have learned... the finished product was a bit grungy but came out really nice :)

I'm a Blogger shirt

Three weeks left before the blogoversary, I had a hard time making the shirt design because I wanted something different, I had to make it monochrome too because multiple colors seems hard, and I was really busy with some stuff.

Days before the big day, I finally settled with the triangle because.... (this will be posted on a separate blog entry :) stay tuned to that)

Here comes the fun part, the procedure :)

1. Printed the pattern then traced onto the silk screen fabric that was inserted between the embroidery loop.

Please click the thumbnail to get a closer look of the outline.

2. Flip the embroidery loop to reverse the pattern. Place a rag underneath.

Using your art brushes, apply a generous amount of glue to the areas that doesn't belong to the pattern.

Waahhh gooey stuff XD Leave it to dry. I did mine in two layers, you can opt to add more lols.

The pattern look purdy :)

3. Place the pattern on top of your shirt. Use the sponge to dab the ink into the pattern.

(Supposed to be white but a long-sized white shirt wasn't available so i picked the yellow colored shirt instead)

4. Leave it to dry for a whole day. After that, set your iron to a temperature of 150. Place the iron on top of the pattern for 15 seconds. And voila! You're done :)

Warning though, this procedure is not suitable for multiple prints :) I know there's a more professional way of printing the design like the emulsion thingie and using a squeegee but I don't have the proper materials for this.

Here's what I meant by "not suitable for multiple prints".

Yep, the pattern comes off each time I dab the ink to each shirt XD

After the fourth shirt, what can I do with this?

ROFL XD

I had loads of fun with this project. I learned a lot! I'll be making more shirt designs in the future, hopefully through the professional procedure :)

Don't forget to stay tune for my next blog entry about the reason why I have chosen a triangle as my shirt design pattern :)

Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary!!!

>> 16 October, 2010

Yes, today is my personal blog, Oh-Wheezers' second blogoversary!!! A happy-happy day for me :)

I am celebrating my dedication to blogging even if I have a busy schedule because being a blogger is already a part of me.

I know I haven't posted enough this year which is way less than the previous but still, I never forget about my Oh-Wheezers, bringing you fresh ideas from the serious to the whack :)

I want to thank my family, friends, classmates, visitors, spammers (lols), and everybody who have read, commented, and browsed through my posts because without you, I would never have continued and my blog won't be noticed on the blogosphere. Thank you so much.

'Til then, let's have another year with my Oh-Wheezers :)

-Boris

Well anyway, remember the "mysterious" project that I have been mentioning for about 2 months long? Giving you clues such as the art brush, embroidery loop, pink sponge, mask, and a pair of gloves that I haven't posted (lols).

I thought no one will ever figure this out so I was like meh... 'til Robbie punched me with the correct answer from the second clue hahaha I kept my cool to keep the mysterious project mysterious but deep inside, I was shocked XD I'll give Robbie a virtual pat on his back :)

If you remember last year on my first blogoversary, I did a video blog but this year, I made a shirt design for Oh-Wheezers' 2nd blogoversary :)

I made three more of these for my sister and two best friends.

I was to produce another for the supposed-to-be-giveaway through a raffle but I had some issues :( Details about this including the process of making this shirt and why I have chosen the triangle are to be posted on separate blog entries so stay tuned to that :)

Anyway, Happy 2nd Blogoversary Oh-Wheezers!!! :)

The Story of Bottled Water

>> 15 October, 2010

The disposal and the manufacturing of bottled water is a problem that causes havoc to our environment. Moreover, producing boxes of the final product takes a big chunk of energy and natural resources that adds up to nature's wrath.

Although, this problem is minimal at our country because most of us either drink from tap water, buy bottled water then refilled with tap, or purchase big containers, then be refilled from water refilling stations.

But still, this is a global issue that needs to be heeded because not everyone is lucky to drink clean water; and plastic completely pollutes our surroundings!

Here is a short video about "The Story of Bottled Water"

I think there's nothing wrong from buying bottled water as long as you don't purchase them everyday, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. Remember to reuse the bottle (not more than two 'cause it's cancerous) and refill it with clean tap water. Also, sell these at recycling centers :)

This blog post is my Official Entry for Blog Action Day 2010 :)

Colours of Sorrow by Tsukasa

Here I go again XD

Yep, Colours of Sorrow by Tsukasa is another song from Djmax Technika. I first thought the lyrics was in Korean but turns out it was in English, still, it's Kpop XD

I have been posting a lot of these type of songs because I love the playful nature of beats harmonizing together, often sprinkled. It's really fresh and quite common to all Korean Pop and Japanese Pop. I just hope a Filipino group/band/singer will be influenced (not for popularity) from this XD

Anyway, try to listen to the beat and the flashes of sounds, leave out the voice and you'll see a different perspective :)

Colours of Sorrow by Tsukasa

Lyrics:

A scene in your mind
The place I could find
Feeling alone
The rest of my hearts have been gone

Unseenable view
Can't walk beside you
Smile for me now
And don't let it down

See the colours of days
I will find in your face
Take my sight away
A place for me to stay 'till the end

In the darkness of pain
I will cry in the rain
Fading with you
Dreaming of your memory
Eternity of love

10 Fascinating stuff about the number 10 -- October 10, 2010 - 10/10/10

>> 10 October, 2010

Today, I'm making a special post for the October 10, 2010 or simply put it as the 10/10/10. I have fossicked the net searching for fascinating facts about the number 10. But first, let me start with the basics then proceed with the actual list :)

October 10 is the 283rd day of the year (284th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar.

Deca means ten which is used for compound words such as a decade, decagon, decameron, decapod, decalogue (10 Commandments); Deci is a combining form meaning tenth, used in units such as decimal, decimate, decimeters, deciliters, and decibel.

Denary, denier, decurion, dime, decennary, december, decussate, decuple, denarius, decennium, dean, doyen, dicker, and decemvir are some of the words with roots from the number 10.

10 Fascinating stuff about the number 10

1.) The 10th wedding anniversary was traditionally called tin or aluminum but was replaced with the diamond due to modern times.

2.) In England and Wales and Northern Ireland the age of responsibility is ten years meaning the child can be convicted of criminal offense if proven guilty, that is, if he was aware of the wrong he did.

3.) Marion Walter is a professor of mathematics at the University of Oregon. Her theorem states that the area of the central hexagonal region HIJKLO determined by trisection of each side of a triangle ABC and connecting the corresponding points with the opposite vertex is given by 1/10 the area of the original triangle.

4.) 10:10 time

4.1. A myth lurked that 10:10 was to commemorate the death of Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. either was shot or have died.

4.2 During the final stages of World War II in 1945, the United States conducted two atomic bombs in Japan. "Little Boy" was dropped in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 while "Fat Man" was dropped in Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Theory has it that 10:10 was the time this happened but it doesn't say which of the two.

4.3 It's an aesthetic for advertising appeal 'cause it resembles a smile. Moreover, it makes you look at the manufacturer's trademark located below the number 12.

5.) Before the 10 Philippine peso coin was released, it was a bill with two versions.

The first version in 1985 was Apolinario Mabini, the Brains of the Katipunan and was often called "The Sublime Paralytic", in front, while on the reverse side is the Barasoain Church where the Malolos Constitution was proclaimed and the Congress of the First Republic convened.

On 1998, Andres Bonifacio, The Father of the Katipunan was added beside Apolinario. On the reverse side, an image of the Blood Compact of the Katipuneros was added beside the Barasoain Church image.

6.) In China, the numeric 10 means perfection. Which is why many Chinese planned their wedding on October 10, 2010. Moreover, bookings for a 10:00 am to a 10:20 am time slot was full.

The Chinese believe that auspicious dates will make a good beginning.

7.) Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was the 10th President of the Philippines, was famous for his infrastructure projects

During his second term he developed a personality cult around himself. The second term proved to be a daunting challenge to the president: an economic crisis brought by external and internal forces, a restive and radicalized studentry demanding reforms in the educational system, a rising tide of criminality, subversion by the re-organized Communist movement, and secession in the south.

Marcos inherited in 1966 an unhealthy economy brought about partly by election-related government overspending.

Amidst the rising wave of lawlessness and the threat of a Communist insurgency, Marcos declared martial law on September 23, 1972, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1081. Marcos, ruling by decree, curtailed press freedom and other civil liberties, closed down Congress and media establishments, and ordered the arrest of opposition leaders and militant activists, including his staunchest critics, senators Benigno Aquino, Jr., Jovito Salonga and Jose Diokno.

The People Power Revolution was a series of popular nonviolent and prayerful mass street demonstrations in the Philippines that occurred in 1986, which marked the restoration of the country's democracy. This protest was the culmination of a long resistance by the people against the 20-year running authoritarian, repressive regime of then president Ferdinand Marcos and made news headlines as "the revolution that surprised the world".

8.) 10 Downing Street in London, colloquially known in the United Kingdom as “Number 10”, is the official residence and office of the First Lord of the Treasury of the United Kingdom.

Situated on Downing Street in the City of Westminster, it is the headquarters of Her Majesty's Government and the residence of the First Lord of the Treasury who is now always the Prime Minister.

Number 10 Downing Street is one of the most famous addresses in the United Kingdom and the world. Almost three hundred years old, the building contains about one hundred rooms. There is a private residence on the third floor and a kitchen in the basement. The other floors contain offices and numerous conference, reception, sitting and dining rooms where the Prime Minister works and meets with and entertains government ministers, national leaders and foreign dignitaries. There is an interior courtyard and, in the back, a terrace overlooking a garden of 0.5 acres (2,000 m2). Adjacent to St James's Park, Number 10 is near the Palace of Westminster, the Houses of Parliament, and Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the British Monarch.

9.) Back in the days when Pluto was still a planet and our solar system has 9 planets, a tenth planet was discovered.

Dr. Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology and his team found a planet as big as Pluto currently about 97 times farther from the sun than Earth, or 97 Astronomical Units. It's temporary name is 2003 UB313.

The new planet is more or less in the Kuiper Belt, a dark realm beyond Neptune where thousands of small icy bodies orbit the sun.

Now, it was nicknamed as Xena. But after scrutinizing the "new planet", it wasn't fit to be called one so they labeled it to one of the dwarf planets.

The dwarf planet's official name is Eris with its moon, Dysnomia.

10.) 10:10 is a campaign founded in September 2009 by Franny Armstrong, director of The Age of Stupid, a film about climate change. As of June 2010, 75,000 individuals, businesses, schools and organisations have joined the campaign to reduce their emissions by 10% in a year.

On October 2010, the group made headlines when they created a mini-movie called "No Pressure" for their campagin. It showed some children, and adults blown up for not doing nothing about climate change.

Video is disturbing! Watch at your own risk!

No Pressure

It caused outraged from supporters and non-supporters of the campaign.

I'm mad at this campaign!!

~~

Whew! Finally finished the list, hope you enjoyed it as much as I do :)

The Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade

>> 09 October, 2010

Yes I'm aware of posting this late which is because I did an extensive research about the Manila Galleon, read the 13-page print thrice, and summarized :)

The Galeon Andalucia, a 51-meter-long replica, has finally docked at Pier 13 in South Harbor, Manila, Philippines last October 6, 2010 after a day of delay due to strong winds from Hong Kong.

The Philippines, the First ASEAN Culture Capital 2010-2011, will host the International Dia del Galeon Festival 2010: Connecting Continents; and is the first country to hold this festival.

Filipinos can visit Galeon Andalucia, learn its history, and see various events prepared on October 7-8, 2010 from 8:00am -12:00nn and 1:00-4:00pm. On October 9, from 8:00am until 12:00 noon only.

So badly wanted to attend the event :(

Well anyway, in the 16th century, the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade (1565-1815) was the longest running shipping line of Spanish trading ships that sailed twice a year across the Pacific Ocean. It would take four months of sailing from Manila (which actually landed first in Cebu) to Acapulco, New Spain (present-day Mexico).

The Manila-Acapulco trade route started in 1568 and Spanish treasure fleets (white) and its eastwards rivals, the Portuguese India Armadas routes of 1498-1640 (blue).

Manila became the center of commerce in the East, creating a global village. The vessels embarked gold, silver, spices, silk, damask, Chinese porcelains, pearls, plants, cotton, indigo, jade, ivory, and lacquerware. Some of these were stored in the Almacenes Reales at Fort Santiago, Intramuros.

Many ships voyaged across the Pacific Ocean but ended up in wreckage which is why the entire trade wouldn't be possible without Fray Andres de Urdaneta's expertise as a circumnavigator. King Philip II of Spain invited Urdaneta to be part of the expedition under Miguel Lopez de Legazpi because of his familiarity with Southeast Asia and its culture, and kept records of his sails.

The Manila galleons fulfilled Christopher Columbus' dream of sailing from west to east, bringing raw products and materials of the Indies to Spain, and the rest of Europe. Though the trade had started after his death for almost 50 years.

In 1815, the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade was permanently ceased due to the Mexican War of Independence.

For 250 years, there were 119 sailed galleons.Add Image

State of the Blogosphere Survey 2010

>> 07 October, 2010

I received an email from Technorati about an annual survey called "State of the Blogosphere Survey 2010".

Here is a context from the email, "Since 2004, Technorati has been tracking the Blogosphere through our State of the Blogosphere study. The goal of the study is to create a complete snapshot of the activities and interactions that make up the Blogosphere by asking you, the bloggers, to share some information about your habits. The survey includes questions like how, when and why you blog. Is this a side business, full time job or something you do for fun?".

I thought it was a hoax or a scam so my curiosity have me searching information on the net.. and golly I was wrong :p

Anyway, I took the survey, about 15-20 minutes long which is about blogging experiences both personal and technical. No harm done, I actually had fun and made me think about my blog and how I operate things XD

The results will be on Technorati this November 3, 2010.

For the meantime, I hope you answer the survey too :)

Project 365

>> 03 October, 2010

I fossicked the net for the exact meaning of what 'Project 365' is but didn't find any except for people who actually did the project.

So I will define it my way... Project 365 is a commitment to do a task everyday with a single goal, 365 days a year. Revolves mainly to your field of interest or to an idea/hobby you want to develop, not a chore but something you love to do. It releases creative juices, teaches responsibility and discipline, and builds the happiness to accomplish things.

Examples of these are photo blogs, illustrations, doodles, poetry, etc... Looking at this project in a different angle, we can use this for life changing experiences like going to the gym, smiling, spontaneously visiting a random blog of any genre, praying to god, create a song/story, saying 'I Love You', random act of kindness, and positive thinking to name few :)

Anyway, my Project 365 is drawing/illustrating/doodling/sketching :)

I have had committed myself last year to draw everyday but I failed to continue the project :( Now, I want to start anew.

From the picture above, the left sketchpad is my old one that I use at school. It is also home to some of my drawings... more like doodling XD The right sketchpad is new which will be used for my Project 365. It has 50 pages so I might as well buy another or (this idea that didn't pop before) go to a print shop and ask if they sell rejected papers. From there, I will ask them to bind it for me. Voila! Instant sketch pad from recycled paper :)

Anyway, I have already started drawing since October 1.. it's a start :)

How about you? Do you have a Project 365 in the making?
