Timezone's Djmax Technika Competition

>> 28 May, 2010

Yep, I signed up to Timezone's First Djmax Technika Competition (click image to enlarge).

I'm in a mixture of excitement and anxiousness 'cause I know there are a lot of better players than I am. They're not claiming nor shoving anything to their fellow DJ's and they are friendly so let's just see what happens on June 4, 2010 XD

Not only am I routing for the technika t-shirt to be given to us (which was said to be awesome :p) but I am also into the experience and the grand eyeball at Trinoma on June 12, 2010 - the Grand Finals.

But I have a 50-50 chance of actually competing next week 'cause the event is on a Friday - a workday. Talk about bad timing :p But nevertheless, I did register, just in case I can come to the competition :)

*crosses fingers*

Pivot by Pivot

A man's passion for photography goes beyond when he witnessed a murder, accidentally pictures the killer. Instinct rushed in, he ran out of sight but the murderer is right on his tracks.

How will he survive this unfortunate event? That my friend, is something to watch for in 'Pivot'.

Yes, it's quite unfortunate but the animation is superb! :)

Pivot is a short animationfilm produced for the KORT! 2009 project; Designed and animated by Kevin Megens, Floris Vos, Arno de Grijs, André Bergs. Music and sound design by Alex Debicki. Script by Jan Eduards. Produced by il Luster Productions.

In my Heart by Tsukasa

>> 16 May, 2010

Weeee more songs from Djmax Technika XD

In my Heart is another lovable song from the game because both the background animation and lyrics completely surpass cuteness!!! Even though it's not quite related to each other XD

The animation is about Shirley House who is searching for a Lupine (the phantom thief) but little does she know, it was her assistant all along. As for the lyrics, it's about a person's realization about someone who loves him, he appreciates it and gives it too.

Anyway, if you see a guy singing this song during his gameplay then you'll know it's me XD

In My Heart by Tsukasa

Lyrics:

The way you used to stroke my hair
The way you used to smile at me
I tried so hard to reach the air
But find myself too blind to see

Day and day and day that follows
Side by side together
Promise you to be the one
Over and over again

You always be there no matter how far
I can feel the wind around me
Softly with your smile at me
From now, always be in my heart

~~

Anyway, In My Heart originally came from a Japanese version. In my opinion, it's a love-hate song... you may want to listen to this too :]

Mount Mayon Infographics

>> 14 May, 2010

Last week, I've submitted my project for my Illustration class and I'm happy with the result. For three weeks, we were to make an infographic on distinct topics randomly picked from small pieces of folded paper handed-out by our professor.

Information graphics or infographics are visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics are used where complex information needs to be explained quickly and clearly, such as in signs, maps, journalism, technical writing, and education. They are also used extensively as tools by computer scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians to ease the process of developing and communicating conceptual information. [Source: Wikipedia]

We see these type of graphics everywhere and it guides us through images such as a green-shaded circle or a man and a woman with a line in between, we instantly know what these mean. It would be a hassle to read signs that says, "Green means Go" or "This way to the comfort room, near the telephone booth".

"Infographics are not an art, they are a conveyance of information." - quote from Patrick Winfield's blog entry.

Charts, graphs, maps, and timelines are good examples of Information Graphics but some of these require a certain level of understanding. Each symbol, arrow, text, and color shades harmonize to what idea is being given out.

Anyway, my project was about the Mayon Volcano.

Here is what it looks like:

View this in full at my Life-Dance, deviantart account.

This shows Mount Mayon's 48 historical eruptions from past to present. The list on the right shows the characteristics of the eruption.

The Design Process

This project was very challenging. There were tons of research work. I did find good ones but I had to eliminate some that doesn't contribute to the idea I was routing for.

Honestly, I have thought about 3 to 5 designs for the project but sticking to one wasn't that easy. But unexpectedly.. I woke up in the middle of the night, days before the deadline, surprised with a totally awesome idea I had.

Too much thinking huh? lols XD

I made this rough sketch after partially reading some of my research work. Oh look at that eruption and those symbols :p

I had to read it all, even the one's I stocked on my email XD

Let the tallying begin :)

In the end, the project was a success. I had fun. It was pure hardwork, sweat, and eyebags. I learned a lot.

I may want to create more Infographics in the future.

I have casted my vote

>> 10 May, 2010

My finger says it all :)

I'm a first time voter and thought it was a smooth sail to the Presinct Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) machine. But when my sister and I came to the presinct, I can't help but compare the situation to a closing sale at a mall.

The long, hot, sweaty line of boredom.

The personnel lacked in facilitating and guiding skills to which everybody ended up confusing each other. My fellow voters felt the same, some even stepped-in to help. And yes, we were pissed from people cutting in line.

Yay! After four straight hours, we're done :)

I asked the personnel if I could have a picture with the PCOS machine, they agreed. It wasn't good but look at the bright side, I've casted my vote and I was part of Philippine History to experience the first Philippine Automated Elections 2010 :)

Sick of "Jejemon"

>> 03 May, 2010

The word Jejemon has completely invaded our minds! Everybody knows it and it spreads out from Facebook walls to Facebook pages, from vlogging to blogging, from newspapers to newsletters and to the entire varity of media there is.

Like come on! This word is soooooooooooooooooo last month ago! Why is everybody making a big deal out of this?! SHEESH!

Okay so we laughed, giggled, raised eyebrows, imitate, and mocked Jejemons from head to foot but my fellow Filipinos, let it rest... let's not make this a "big thing" 'cause this is nothing to be proud of. We only see them as a joke.

Now, if you're not from the Philippines but still want to know more about them then let me quote-in a definition from urbandictionary.com

Jejemons - Usually seen around social networking sites such as Friendster and Multiply, they're individuals with low IQs who spread around their idiocy on the web by tYpFing LyK diZS jejejeje, making all people viewing their profile raise their eyebrows out of annoyance. Normal people like you and me must take a Bachelor of Arts in Jejetyping in order to understand said individuals, as deciphering their text would cause a lot of frustration and hair pulling.

Jejemons are confined to trying-hard Filipino gangsters and emos.

..god I hope nobody makes a song about them ~_~;;

Getting back to Dance Dance Revolution

>> 01 May, 2010

Getting back to playing Dance Dance Revolution at the arcade is part of my to-do list in life but I never got to really push myself to pursue this activity. In fact, it has been months since I've stepped the pad.

The truth is, I lost interest to play the game when I started to lose weight. I know that wouldn't be much of a problem 'cause I can just regain it by eating more.. but the thing is, I have an uber fast metabolism... that's what they all say.. the bottom line is, it's hard for me to gain weight.

Besides, I have this problem with my legs whenever a step chart of a song has a successive number of steps for one leg. I know what to do but I can't seem to coordinate myself properly.

Anyway, Khim insists that I should reconsider playing again. I wasn't enthusiastic with the idea 'cause I know I will suck!

Until... I went to the arcade this afternoon and played Dance Dance Revolution 6th mix.

I know I had a long rest from DDR so I didn't went straight on Heavy mode. I tried all the songs in Standard. Surprisingly, with 11 tokens, 5 songs each, no extra stage, I've managed to full combo with a majority of an A-rating to some of the songs. There were B's and C's but still a full combo?! XD I also managed to B some of the Heavy mode songs :p

I don't care if I was sweating mad 'cause I was having a blast! :)

Hmmm.. Maybe in some way, I did improved... not knowing I did lols or maybe I just gained weight to balance myself during gameplay. Or is it the shoes? Or the newly fixed dance pad? Hmmm... a lot to think about but all I know is... I'll be back for more :)

Oh by the way, I didn't get to take a photo myself with the DDR machine 'cause my cellphone ran out of charge XD
