Shirt Design for my Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary
>> 17 October, 2010
Yep, I made that triangle-shaped shirt design on a yellow shirt for my Oh-Wheezers' 2nd Blogoversary. I can't remember how I thought of the idea to make a shirt design, I just did :)
Anyway, I prepared this project for almost two months. I first seek assistance to my professors if they knew anybody who runs a shirt printing business, gave me contact numbers but didn't called or emailed them even if I wanted to because back in my mind, I was worried about the cost of the whole printing.
I did my research about silk screening and find it interesting, I was like, "I'll do this myself, it will be fun." :)
I watched tutorial videos, read product reviews and procedures, searched for materials at the mall, figured substitutions for unavailable materials, and contacted the supplier to clarify my queries.
I was semi-prepared so I made a test shirt to apply what I have learned... the finished product was a bit grungy but came out really nice :)

I'm a Blogger shirt
Three weeks left before the blogoversary, I had a hard time making the shirt design because I wanted something different, I had to make it monochrome too because multiple colors seems hard, and I was really busy with some stuff.
Days before the big day, I finally settled with the triangle because.... (this will be posted on a separate blog entry :) stay tuned to that)
Here comes the fun part, the procedure :)
1. Printed the pattern then traced onto the silk screen fabric that was inserted between the embroidery loop.

Please click the thumbnail to get a closer look of the outline.
2. Flip the embroidery loop to reverse the pattern. Place a rag underneath.

Using your art brushes, apply a generous amount of glue to the areas that doesn't belong to the pattern.

Waahhh gooey stuff XD Leave it to dry. I did mine in two layers, you can opt to add more lols.

The pattern look purdy :)
3. Place the pattern on top of your shirt. Use the sponge to dab the ink into the pattern.

(Supposed to be white but a long-sized white shirt wasn't available so i picked the yellow colored shirt instead)
4. Leave it to dry for a whole day. After that, set your iron to a temperature of 150. Place the iron on top of the pattern for 15 seconds. And voila! You're done :)

Warning though, this procedure is not suitable for multiple prints :) I know there's a more professional way of printing the design like the emulsion thingie and using a squeegee but I don't have the proper materials for this.
Here's what I meant by "not suitable for multiple prints".

Yep, the pattern comes off each time I dab the ink to each shirt XD
After the fourth shirt, what can I do with this?

ROFL XD

I had loads of fun with this project. I learned a lot! I'll be making more shirt designs in the future, hopefully through the professional procedure :)

Parang ang hassle naman gawin nyan. Buti matyaga ka! Wahahaha. I might try this also in the future kapag wala na masyadong ginagawa.
@Robbie, hassles pero masaya :) sana nga matry mo pero like I said, di siya suitable for multiple prints XD Good luck :)
cool design - looks like the new-age star of david. Mukhang exciting and fun tong project na to - yun nga lang I think kelangan ng extra effort talaga. Happy blogoversary - More posts to come.
