Iron Chef America is a cooking battle show on a kitchen stadium that summons upon world-class chefs to a cook-off against either Iron Chef Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Masaharu Morimoto, Cat Cora or Michael Symon. Each week, a secret ingredient is revealed to which both chefs would create 5 dishes in just one hour.
After the given time, the dishes are to be judged by three well-known guests. Both chefs are to present their dishes. Judging is based on presentation, originality and taste. Whoever scores the highest wins.The season opening episode last January 3, 2010 features Iron Chef Mario Batali and Super Chef Emeril Lagasse facing off against Iron Chef Bobby Flay and Filipino-American White House Executive Chef, Cristeta Comerford.
Special guest, Michelle Obama welcomed the chefs and revealed the secret ingredient - the White House garden filled with vegetables such as fennels, collard greens, kale, rhubarbs, broccoli, watermelon and icicle radish, purple cauliflower and Japanese eggplant, to name a few.Back to the cooking battle. Both teams did a splendid job to their dishes but only one would be named victorious, and that team was Flay and Comerford's. The taste criteria was a tie but the originality and presentation gave them a push over Batali and Lagasse's dishes.
